Little Dreamers launches new 24/7 online support platform for young carers
6 July 2020
Little Dreamers is celebrating the launch of the Dreamers Hub, a new innovative approach to online support for one of Australia’s most vulnerable youth populations.
The Hub is an interactive community full of resources, forums, games, and instant support, improving mental health and increasing social opportunities for Young Carers. The resource is especially critical for Young Carers in remote and rural regions of Australia, who may be unable to access the face to face programs that Little Dreamers has to offer.
The Dreamers Hub will also provide a regular source of educational support for Young Carers, engaging regular experts to conduct video classes, lead live forums and contribute articles. Educational content will range from resume masterclasses, money matters, study skills, careers guidance and more.
Given the current COVID-19 landscape, there has never been a better time to introduce a thorough online support platform like the Dreamers Hub.
“Many Young Carers are facing increased anxiety due to the threat of the virus to at-risk family members, coupled with increased social isolation and higher demand in their caring roles due to being at home more,” says Little Dreamers Founder and CEO, Maddy Buchner.
“At this time more than ever, we’re seeing the importance of virtual programs and remote solutions, ensuring our most vulnerable have access to the support they need without having to leave the home.”
Young Carers often assume extra familial responsibilities as part of their caring roles. This can include grocery shopping, earning money for the household, paying bills and managing family budgets.
Ecstra Foundation has partnered with Little Dreamers to deliver a Dreamers Hub financial literacy series, which will span over six months and include podcasts, worksheets and tailored support for Young Carers.
A Young Carer is anyone under the age of 25 who provides, or intends to provide, care for a family member with a disability, illness or addiction.
