MoneySmart
A guidance and support website from the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC), Australia's corporate, markets, financial services and consumer credit regulator. ASIC is the lead Australian Government agency for financial capability.
MoneySmart includes any resources for all stages of life and topics. It includes calculators and tips to help individuals make better financial decisions.
Financial Information Service
A free service that can inform and educate consumers about financial matters. It offers contact with Financial Information Service Officers for general information, but does not offer financial counselling or advice. Supported by Services Australia.
Managing Your Money
Information provided by Services Australia to help you manage your money at different times of your life, including tools and tips on budgeting, dealing with debt, and tax.
Department of Social Services
The Australian Government, in partnership with community organisations, provides support to vulnerable individuals and families experiencing financial crises. Services included provide crisis support, broad financial capability building services, financial counselling and access to microfinance products. Services are free, voluntary and confidential and are generally delivered by community organisations.
National Debt Hotline
A not-for-profit service to help Australians tackle debt problems that offers free and confidential advice from professional financial counsellors. Telephone advice, supported by face to face counselling for more complex matters. Operated by Financial Counselling Australia.
Good Shepherd
Offers financially inclusive products, services and advisory through hundreds of providers across Australia including the NILS loan scheme. Good Shepherd Microfinance works with corporates, Government, community sector partners, and academics. A very good resource for people in immediate financial difficulty.
GS also manages the Financial Inclusion Action Plan (FIAP) program.
Money Minded
An adult financial education program which helps people looking to create a budget, reduce debt, and increase savings. Utilised by hundreds of thousands of people to-date, this resource is supported by ANZ. MoneyMinded facilitator training and materials are available from ANZ, and the program is also used within the Saver Plus matched savings program.
Women Talk Money
Resources for women about relationships and money, and financial abuse.
Small Business Workshops and Webinars
The ATO offers free workshops and webinars on a variety of tax topics for small business.
Money & Life
An online resource dedicated to helping Australians improve their financial wellbeing. Operated by the Financial Advice Association of Australia (FAAA).
SuperGuru
A website providing independent information to help you better engage with and grow your superannuation. Operated by the Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia (ASFA), the peak body for Australia’s superannuation industry.
Insurance explained
A website that provides practical information to help you find out more about insurance and make decisions that meet your needs. Operated by the Insurance Council of Australia, the peak body for the general insurance industry.
Financial Mentoring
A financial coaching program developed by Crossway Lifecare. The coaching usually runs for 10 sessions, followed by a period of informal support.
Firmer Foundations
A free coaching program developed by Good Shepherd ANZ for women aimed at increasing financial capability, security and independence. Available in VIC and NSW.
Guide Your Money
Resources are available for download online for the Guide Your Money Foundations Program for girls aged 7 – 12 years.
In Charge Of My Money
Designed to individuals who are finding it difficult to manage their money and to be better able to make informed decisions about their spending and borrowing. Each module can be delivered in three hours. Developed by Wesley Mission.
Let’s Talk Money
A financial literacy program run by Women’s Health in the North that aims to support the economic empowerment of immigrant and refugee women living in the northern metropolitan region of Victoria. The program uses a bilingual, peer educator approach.
My Money Dream
A financial literacy training program delivered by Indigenous people for Indigenous people, developed by First Nations Foundation.
Making Money Easy
Making Money Easy is an online learning system offered by Participate Australia that supports teenagers and adults with an intellectual disability in learning basic financial skills such as how to count, how to recognise money, how to budget and how to complete a range of simple to complex financial transactions.
Saver Plus
Saver Plus is a matched savings and financial education program, offered locally by community organisations in every state and territory.
The program is funded by ANZ and the Australian Government.
Yarnin’ Money
This three-phase financial literacy training program supports remote Indigenous communities in far north Queensland.
You, Me & Money
You, Me & Money aims to highlight and prevent economic abuse in young adult relationships.
This unique online toolkit can be accessed by young adults and provides help on navigating tricky money conversations, sets out the financial steps in a relationship, and provides plenty of tips on how to spot a financially unhealthy relationship.
Dr Jozica Kutin’s research into young adults’ experience of financial abuse led her to collaborate with YLab. A series of co-designed workshops with young adults helped discover their key money concerns and needs, and how best to address this.
The You, Me and Money toolkit is an interactive quiz, designed to lead the user to better understand their overall money values and approach, encourage better money conversations and provides resources to help.
Although designed primarily for young relationships the tools are relevant for all adults.
Be the Boss
The Salvation Army’s financial literacy education program. Each workshop is approximately 2 to 3 hours long and can be tailored to suit the needs of the audience and takes about 2 to 4 sessions to complete, depending on the group.
