Young Chagemakers work with charities to make money go further
As part of the $1 million funding for Community Foundations across Australia, Ecstra Foundation is proud to partnering with the Inner North Community Foundation in Melbourne.
This new initiative is based on the success of the Young Changemakers pilot program where students learn practical skills while working with local charities.
Inner North Community Foundation will scale up to five Young Changemakers high school programs. Each school is allocated $15k, which students donate to local charities through a small grants process.
Through the program students learn valuable money skills, including budgeting, resource allocation and reporting as well as the social impact of local philanthropy.
Ecstra Foundation is proud to be supporting this initiative, helping to grow the practical money skills of students through helping others.
CEO of Ecstra Foundation, Caroline Stewart knows the value that Community Foundations bring to the distinct culture of a local community “Local leaders know their communities well, and are best placed to decide how philanthropic funding can spark positive changes in community financial wellbeing. This is an opportunity for communities to build a thriving local area.”
Ben Rodgers, Executive Officer of the Inner North Community Foundation says that “By working with high schools and local charities, we can help foster a thriving community in Melbourne’s inner north. Students walk away with financial know-how and charities get to further their work, and build community inclusion. We can now help more young people learn how financial education can contribute to a vibrant local community.”
This program is part of the $1,000,000 grants to connect communities across Australia, funded by Ecstra Foundation.
