Financial Literacy Month 2021

April is Financial Literacy Month. This international campaign highlights the importance of financial education, and shares insights on building and maintaining healthy financial habits.

Money lessons for life

At Ecstra, we believe learning about money is a lifelong journey. We call this ‘Money lessons for life’. All Australian children, families and communities should have access to effective, unbiased financial education at the times they need it most.

We know that lessons in childhood and teenage years carry through to influence money habits and behaviours in our adult lives. That is why we work with passionate financial education experts, often already located in communities, schools and workplaces.

What does financial wellbeing mean to you?

Throughout April we are asking our community why money lessons matter, and what financial wellbeing means to you?.

“For me, it’s a feeling that’s somewhere in between freedom and a sense of control. It means never feeling constricted by my personal situation that I can’t do things I want to do, but also having the discipline to not go overboard. I want to feel proud of the choices I make when it comes to money”

– Lou, National Manger – Wake by Reach

“It’s having a plan for your finances and being comfortable enough that it isn’t like a giant stress in your life. I don’t think it means being rich or not living paycheck to paycheck, it’s being paid a living wage and living within your means. Having a plan for where and how you spend your money.”

– Mercedes

“Having a healthy relationship with money and a sense of comfortability and security when it comes to finances”

– Bri

“Understanding my personal financial position and making positive choices. It comes from having a deep knowledge of money in general”

– Alex

“Financial wellbeing is having a financial plan that enables choice. I don’t want to be trapped in a job or relationship that is detrimental to my wellbeing because of a lack of money.”

- Dr Tracey West, Lecturer, Griffith University
