Financial Wellbeing Network
The Financial Wellbeing Network is a national, cross sector forum for stakeholders to connect, share expertise, insights and ideas, and work together to build the financial health and wellbeing of all Australians.
The Network invites diverse perspectives across research, policy, education, community, industry and government to support shared learning and goals, practical action and consistent measurement. This includes building momentum for a more coordinated national approach to financial capability and wellbeing.

A landmark new report finds Australia needs a more coordinated and integrated national approach to financial wellbeing as people navigate increasingly complex financial lives. Australia’s financial wellbeing: an integrated approach authored by Wellbeing Research and RMIT University’s Consumer Wellbeing Research Group and funded by Ecstra Foundation, explores how major forces including technology, health and climate change are reshaping financial wellbeing.
Honorary Professor Roslyn Russell (RMIT University and Director, Wellbeing Research), presented key insights from the report. Ecstra CEO Caroline Stewart hosted the session, which was followed by an audience Q&A.

Ecstra Foundation launched a landmark research report ‘Australia’s financial wellbeing: an integrated approach’ in Melbourne on 16 June at the Queen Victoria Women’s Centre.
The report is authored by Honorary Professor Roslyn Russell (RMIT University and Director, Wellbeing Research) and Professor Mike Reid (RMIT University’s Consumer Wellbeing Research Group) and research teams, with funding from Ecstra. Thank you to the Reference Group members, practitioners, leaders, researchers and advocates who all contributed their expertise and insights to the report.
Prof Russell shared her report findings and participated in an expert panel alongside Mitali Tyagi (Financial Rights Legal Centre), Chandni Gupta (Consumer Policy Research Centre) and Irene Verins (Beyond Blue), facilitated by Caroline Stewart (CEO, Ecstra). National Financial Wellbeing Summit – Sydney

As part of our ongoing commitment to building a future in which all people can achieve their best financial wellbeing, Ecstra hosted a Financial Wellbeing Summit on Thursday 6 November 2025.
With Effie Zahos, 9News Money Editor as MC, and opening remarks from Assistant Treasurer and Minister for Financial Services, the Hon Dr Daniel Mulino MP (pre-recorded), keynote speakers ASIC Commissioner Alan Kirkland, Hon. Professor Roslyn Russell and the OECD’s Miles Larbey set the scene for thought-provoking discussions.
Our panels explored the drivers of inequality, the balance between education and regulation, and the power of collaboration to strengthen financial, mental and social wellbeing.
Ecstra CEO Caroline Stewart closed the Summit with a clear message: strengthening financial wellbeing requires working together across policy, education, systems and communities under a renewed national strategy – led by government and backed by stable funding, clear accountability and measurable outcomes.

Coinciding with the release of a new module on scams for schools in the Talk Money with Ecstra Foundation program, Ecstra is exploring the complex world of scams, deceptive design practices and online safety issues that young people navigate. Our May event supported the launch of Ecstra Foundation’s 2025 national financial education in schools survey results.
Ecstra commissioned YouGov to survey students, parents and teachers across Australia about their attitudes, behaviours and experience relating to money and financial education. The results provide new and valuable insights into what money topics students want to learn more about, teacher feedback on how to make financial education more effective, parents views on financial education and digital financial literacy.
